
There are three groups which are allowed to stay in Thailand by a marriage visa. Foreigners who married a person originating from Thailand or having children together., family members or followers of Non-B or retirement visa holders.
Groups
Three groups can obtain a marriage visa.
- Foreigners who marriage with Thai nationality / sponsored Thai children
- Family / followers of “Non-B” visa holders with work permits in Thailand
- Family / followers of retirement visa holders which is under 50 years old
Duration of Dependent Visas
When first applying for a dependent visa, your spouse or child will be granted a single-entry visa valid for a stay of 90 days. Their stay can be extended for 1 year at a time by applying for an extension at the local Immigration Office in Thailand. The application for extension should be made when there is still at least 21 days validity remaining on the current visa.
The Non-Immigrant “O” Visa for dependents does not allow them to legally work in Thailand. If Non- O holders wish to work, he or she should get the appropriate Non-Immigrant “B” Visa and Work Permit through their own employers.
In case you have to leave the country for any reason, you must be allowed to return to the country by apply for Re-Entry at the nearest immigration office or at the international airport that you will depart. By this way, your visa will not be canceled.
In the event of a divorce, your marriage visa will be canceled and you will have to leave the country immediately.

Requirements
To apply for their dependent visas, your spouse and/or child will need the following:
- Passport with at least 6 months validity remaining
- Completed application form
- Recent photo, 4×6 cm in size with a blue or white background
- Original and copy of Marriage Certificate (for spouse) or Birth Certificate (for child)
- Copy of the sponsoring individual’s Thai Work Permit
- Supporting documents of the relevant immediate family member
- Copy of Thai Identification
- Copy of Thai passport
- Copy of house registration (Ta-Bien-Bann)
6. A copy of a bank statement showing a deposit at the amount equal to no less than 400,000 Baht, or an original income certificate with a monthly salary of no less than 40,000 Baht
Note: The financial criteria are not applied to foreign woman who marries a Thai man. The Thai husband must provided proof of payment of personal income tax and financial status.
Additional requirements depending on which Thai Embassy or Consulate , there may such as:
- Copy of the company’s registration, company’s shareholders list, company’s latest balance sheet, company’s registration of value-added tax (VAT) in case of dependent of Non- B holders.
- The Police Clearance Certificate
- Medical Certificate

What if I entered Thailand by Tourist Visa?
If you entered Thailand on a tourist visa, then you must change your visa type to non-immigrant visa. This step will allow you to stay in Thailand for further 3 months and extend the dependent visa for another 1 year.
At this stage you will also need to open a Thai bank account and transfer in sufficient funds to meet the requirements above. The funds must have been held in your Thai bank account for at least 3 months before you apply for an extension of dependent visa.
Note: a ‘free-on-arrival’ 30 day tourist visa is unsuitable as you will not be allowed to enter Thailand unless you are holding either a return ticket or an onward ticket to another country.
How many times can I departure and re-entry Thailand?
The departure and re-entry permit shall be valid for one year from the
date the competent official has made the same and during that one year period the holder of the visa can make as many departures and re-entries as desirable.
